Hello brave survivalists...you've picked a good day to venture out and try to stop the outbreak.
When Lucille and Togusa approach the mailbox outside of Wiffle-Waffle, they will receive a note from the mailbox. The writing on the bottom is smudged, but it will state the following:
Midasdust - a finely grated mixture of minerals, sand and bone marrow. This mixture may be obtained from beneath the city life and collected via sifting through soils past. May be throw onto harpies for a dust bath, incapacitating their ability for flight and even retracting harpy-esque features.
Beneath the city lies an abandoned subway system, and Togusa may be the right person to remember this fact and apply it to the information the pair of them receive. As they venture down into the entrance and find themselves in the abandoned tunnels, they will find that they’re dark and empty and they will need some sort of light source to see.
As they walk, they’ll hear several trains passing through though they will not see them at all. They will have to venture pretty far into the tunnels, twisting and turn their way through to a few empty, abandoned cars. They don’t appear to be working and it’s hard to say how long they’ve been down there, but they’re unrecognizable to either of them. Trying to open the car doors also won’t seem to help as the doors have been melded together. As they look around at the cars and try to find a way in, they will soon find themselves hearing a clawing motion, and if they’re not paying attention they will find themselves swarmed with skeletal arms crawling in the dirt toward them and crawling up their bodies. It’s just arms, it seems, from the shoulder down and these can easily be stopped by stomping on them, crushing them with loose rocks or planks they find abandoned in the path, etc.
They’ll be able to realize that the arms are crawling out from under one of the larger cars, and if they look beneath they’ll find broken bits of bone, ash, and some flakes of gold. The Midasdust appears to have gathered here, and they will have to find a way to get under the car, gather the dust, and get back out.
Problems they will encounter will include the skeletal arms, navigating their way through the tunnels, fitting under the car enough to get at the dust, and making their way back. With some clever thinking, this should work out for them.
