Ms. Fairweather, it's not entirely about living up to our expectations. It's about the fact that we need help. There are...things we'd rather not tell the wide public lest everybody completely freak out. But I get it. I didn't trust the company entirely when I first met them either.
Let me ask you this. What is it in particular you would like to ask? What's expected? Or what your assignment is for this very moment?

She chafes at authority. She always has. And so to be asked what her assignment is frustrates her, to be told what some company expects of her rubs her even worse. She waffles on how to respond for those several seconds before she eventually just says, ]
You tell me where you need the help most and you tell me why you need that help, when "the company" has been lording over everyone for a year now. ... That would be what I'd like to ask.

I've heard of them, yes! Something like the storm rolls in and strange things start happening everywhere because it's full of unreality?

[ Coffee sip ]
I've been worried about my folks honestly.

When was the last time you've seen them? [Why is he curious about this, we just don't know.]

[ She hums a little, putting a hand on her cheek and thinking on it. That sounds right, this last summer. ]

[ She sighs. ]
... And now the terrain outside the city looks different. Did it just override what was there before?
no subject
It's sort of an override, yeah. Things are still being reconstructed out there and taking shape to protect what was there, but the world as you know it still exists somewhere out there.

[ . . . Skeptically. ]

[ Look of course she was going to ]

Like an onion or like a cake?

[ But she laughs it off, leaning back in the chair and sipping the coffee, now it's both cooled and she mixed the proper cream and sugar into it. But okay, so layers... un wraps? Hmmm. ]
So things get more wrapped up, or more unwrapped the wilder it gets?

[ Like seriously those are opposite meanings...
Still, she sighs and shakes her head, sipping the coffee. She does sound exasperated, but not particularly mean either. Her heartstone does betray the feeling and some growing doubts about him and about Retrospec's competence but...
The guy has been nice and civil to her, so. ]
So I'll be going out to do that, then. As much as I can in a Prius...

I get the feeling you're the kind who doesn't let things go without accomplishing something. Am I wrong?
no subject
[ But she does... like... not like getting results. Unless she decides she doesn't care. ]
