[but she's going to let it go. Zee's smart. he has to know that that isn't what she was talking about, but it's still... it's always good, new information for her to have. he kind of knows how to tell her what she needs to hear. she shakes her head.]
Never mind. So we have to find where he's funneling all this soul energy to, which is probably where that eye keeps looking, so it could be... any cardinal direction in the fucking city. Cool. Narrowed it down. See, aren't you glad you have me on your team.
[god, no. there needs to be an actual pattern to the places it's staring at. otherwise it wouldn't keep doing it. she just hasn't seen it yet because she's too focused on herself. never had the head for all that bigger picture stuff on her own.]

I always appreciate the sarcasm, Anna, you know that. [There's a half-smile, but it's a little strained.]
...I think it leads straight back to the ocean. That's where the lines seem to be running. Back to Peach Beach.
no subject
[why is she trying to be defensive? what the fuck? does she actually like counting him as a friend? weird.]
And you're telling me he's got a beachfront estate right now. Or an undersea base, full-ass supervillain style. All right, well, wouldn't be the first B&E I've done this year. Maybe I'll be better at it if I don't have someone saying me busting a door down with my foot is hot this time.
no subject
[This is Fine.]
That's what I'm saying though, yeah. It would explain a lot including why the hell we couldn't find him before now. If he was hiding right under our noses and working under the city...doesn't that explain how the storms were being controlled and everything that's been happening in all of the regions? If we figure out a way into his base and find him and cut off his resources, we might be in good shape.
But I know people like Togusa are passionate about their own plan. He told me to start asking everybody for a volunteer for my ideas, but...I don't know. [He furrows his eyebrows together.] I know what the end goal is, and I've seen the ending. It's how we get there and the lines laid down that makes a difference.
no subject
So you did finally see the good end. [encouraging, honestly.] That's why the subways were closed off. That's why there was so much shit in there stopping us from looking. He set up base down there, and now we just need to figure out what experiments he's got down there guarding him so we can fuck it all up. The problem is figuring out how to get in there.
[and she thinks back to... some of her memories. and. well.]
Too bad I'm out to keep myself alive or I'd offer to blow the place to shit with the bomb inside my chest.
no subject
...bomb? Bomb. [Bomb?] Let's...not even joke about taking measures that extreme.
no subject
Welcome to me being an android. Guess that's how I can power myself. It's, like, a fission reactor or something. I don't know. Not my kind of science. [she shakes her head.] You were saying? Before I blew up the conversation with my heart bomb?
no subject
You know, we're going to go over that in our first session. [Yikes. But he straightens up to recompose himself.] Anyway, I think...Togusa's plan will come to light when one world is completed, but I wonder if that includes this world as well. You know, meddling with the numbers and getting the city of Recollé back to what it originally was. Stripping Vanderweele's influence, re-calibrating the layers...that should work in theory.
If his base is at the bottom of the ocean, then we need to get down there. We have a couple of ways of doing that and we still have a couple of ways of dealing with him. That's why I offered three different timelines in case there was any debate, but they should all be with the same endgoal in mind and that's taking his power and putting a stopper on it.
His staff used to be the sole channel of his power, but we don't know what he's working with down there. That metal eyeball's probably acting as his right hand, so you're right, taking it out is a start.
It's just a matter of...well. It's not going to be a huge raging battle, but it's not going to be an easy fight either.
no subject
[that's kind of her main concern. she isn't worried about it too much for herself, but not everyone else can keep going until the job is done.]
I can blind him up here, but we'd have to coordinate it, right? Otherwise he'll know we're coming for him and it'll make the fight a lot harder than it needs to be. Togusa's still got his tanks or whatever, right? There's some firepower. But we don't know who all's still here willing to do the damn thing. This ain't a siege. This has to be a blitz. We hit hard, we hit fast, it's over before he has time to turn on all his defenses.
[oh, god fucking dammit. she grins despite herself.]
You're sitting here making me use the first 19 years of my life. I swear to god, Zee.

The most I can do is ask. The system allows us to reach out to you guys at certain times, so I can ask who's willing and who's taking cover and working covertly. We lost a lot of people that could have helped but that's only going to be a detriment if we let it be. If we have a ground team that's waiting for the entrance to the base to open, we can have a blitz team that strikes and earns us the access we need.
[There's a charming grin.] So yeah. That's exactly right. [But he hums to himself.] I almost wish I could put you in two places. Togusa, too. And maybe Matt and Li-Na. It would give us enough coverage otherwise.
The main thing I'm stuck on is stripping him of his abilities and how we're going to do that. If he's not using a staff, there's gotta be something else he's using. If it's his own body, well...murder wasn't exactly on the table. But siphoning out his abilities is a thought. I've been reading old files to get an idea of what the company was trying to do.
no subject
[it's a joke, but, like. is it? she's grinning until it hits her as an actual possibility, and she puts a hand to her chin, then points with her other hand.]
Hold onto that one. I like the idea of sucking away his abilities, and we'll do "reinforcements from the future" if we run out of anything else. Can you fuck with his soul like you were trying to do when I came back from the sixth layer? Just draw the magic powers part out of who he is? Or, like, there's the brain, too. If that microchip was data for the damn thing then you could probably reconstruct it.
[not that she's. keen on the idea. the more she thinks about it, the more she likes the idea of future Anna.]
no subject
And you're not worried about two of you running around simultaneously? [It's not the worst idea, even if it's risky.]
I think if I can get him to sit still long enough and get a sample I might? He's one of the originals so I'm not sure how much soul theory applies to him. That only happens, you know, when your world's destroyed and you're reincarnated for the most part. But I could probably temper with his abilities if we can "unhook" his genetic make-up, if you will.
So you think rewriting the chip could do it? [...it's a lot.] It has to be you guys. So let's go down the rabbit hole of doubles running around and future yous. You think that's good enough? If we bring back copies of you guys with your full memories and full powers and memories of Recollé.
no subject
[god. all of this has been leading back here, huh. the Gordian knots, the alternate timeline bullshit. draining memories, people leaving the app and falling back down the layers. these clues were here the whole time and she managed to blow past every single one of them. she's almost impressed with herself.]
I think it'll work if we can guarantee that they're all willing to work for the same cause. Which we definitely can't. I can only speak for myself. Plus, don't I already look like what everyone thinks of when they think grimdark future bullshit? [see, she can joke about her eye. sort of.] My own timeline's fucked enough by now anyway. Why not give it a try?
no subject
...it might be an idea I float with everybody else. There's so few of you now that it may not even make a huge difference if only some of you are upgraded versions of yourself. And you've all experienced timetravel now that a paradox might not happen if you go in knowing it's happening.
The most important things are the eye, dismantling the reach of power, and dismantling the power itself. The rest is all set-dressing we can try a handful of methods with. [He peers out from between his fingers.] ...what's the worst that could happen anymore? If it means "finishing" this world so Togusa's objective kicks in...I'll take it.
no subject
[all of this really is over her head. she doesn't really know what's gonna happen next or how they're gonna enact... everything that they gotta enact. instead, she picks up the grocery store cake and slides it on his desk, then pulls some cheap plastic utensils out of the grocery bag that's still in her lap.]
Come on. You got me. I can handle the brute force stuff and you know I'm good for that. You got Matthews for the magic shit, Togusa's got a tank or something... point is we got this. This is as calm as it's gonna get before the storm.
