RETROSPEC GUIDE.

So what is Retrospec?
Retrospec is a social media app run by a company of the same name. You can learn more over at our FAQ.

Where did the app come from?
The Retrospec app automatically downloads to any mobile device a playable character owns. This also extends to any other device such as their own home computers and etc. Additionally, the app will appear for any PC on public devices such as library computers, test models in electronic stores and NPCs' devices. The app will disappear from public devices when PCs walk away from them, but it will reinstall if they return. Likewise, if they hand their own mobile device/home computer to an NPC, the NPCs will not see the app or network at all.

Will it show up in the download/purchase history on a device?
It will not. It will simply start to download on its own upon your admittance to the game with no proof of purchase.

So there's no way to get rid of the app?
Nope. Congratulations, your character is part of the very special group of people testing out the app!

But my character didn't ask for this.
It's okay, nobody did. But at least they aren't alone. All characters have access to [community profile] retrospec to post to and reply to each other as one giant message board.

Will the app download on a device even if there's no network or wifi available?
Yes, even if the device isn't connected to a network at the time it will download to whatever a character is using.

What about if my character tries to delete the app?
The app will reinstall itself. If they pause the download, it will resume on its own, etc. There's really no way around it. Weird.

What does the app include?
When the app first downloads to your device, your character's name will already be filled in. This is their real name! No aliases or secret identities here! At this time, it's impossible to change your screen name. Characters are free to try and find out how to do so, however. Additionally, your character will be able to upload one photo and they cannot change this photo for at least one month. Why? Because Retrospec the company thinks it's funny. There's really no other reason. They love silly selfies.

What photo will my character be using? What does my profile say?
When you are accepted into the game, we provide you with an IC inbox code that you can customize. The photo you choose for this inbox code will be your character's Retrospec profile picture. For the first month, this is a photo of your character and after that they are free to swap to something else. Additionally, the profile you fill in on the inbox code will be their short Retrospec profile. This mirrors the real world ability to swap out photos and information about themselves.

Is there a directory of users?
Yes, there is! The Retrospec app includes a list of users by their name (first and last, as displayed on their own app) along with the uploaded profile picture of each person. This way other Retrospec users can contact one another with ease.

When reading posts, can my character share a post or forward it to someone else?
Yup. Unless a party marks a post as filtered to a certain group, all threads and posts are visible to everyone on the network and therefore can be forwarded and shared.

What about liking/resharing/retweeting/etc?
Also yes! It is possible for characters to like or RT a post! For the sake of content (and the mods' sanity at AC time), we ask that players who choose to do this write "LIKE" or "RETWEET" or etc in the subject field of their tag. Blank comments with only the subject filled in will NOT count for AC/bonus points. We will only count comments with content for AC/points.

Can my character turn off notifications for the app/ignore it? What about setting specific notifications?
Sure they can, but why would they want to do that? In all seriousness, yes, it's possible to turn off notifications for the app so that they can only check it when they feel like reading it. The app will also try to open when your character interacts with their mobile/home/public device but it can easily be dismissed if they don't wish to view it right then and there.

Additionally, your character can set "favorite" notifications so that they can receive updates when someone (family/friends/close CR/etc) makes a post to the network.

How do I make posts on Retrospec?
We have several templates that you can use to create posts or respond to other posts. You are also free to be a little creative in your posting.

Can characters filter to one person on the Retrospec network like instant messenger?
They can, but we ask that all 1 on 1 interaction take place in your IC inboxes. Retrospec is meant for posts that groups of people or the game at large can respond to.

What about other social media services like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc?
They exist! Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram - all these things exist and are named exactly as they are in the real world. You are permitted to use them at this time in your IC inbox if you'd like. However, the Retrospec community is solely for Retrospec posts.

Can my character have multiple Retrospec accounts?
At this time there is not a way to use Retrospec for multiple accounts! In fact, it's almost as though the app already knows exactly who you are...

Does Retrospec have an email or something characters can contact to complain?
Not yet. They're much more interested in seeing their testers talk to each other than interacting with them so far.
